Walking With Purpose
There are moments in life that change everything.
Not because the world suddenly sees you differently, but because you finally begin to see yourself differently.
This incredible story and photo editorial for The Visionary captures a part of my journey that has shaped so much of who I am today.
When people look at my career, they often see the runways, the films, the magazine covers, or The Mummy. But behind every visible moment was a much quieter story. A story about survival, identity, purpose, and learning to trust myself before the world understood me.
Growing up in Venezuela, my mother and I carried buckets of water up fifteen flights of stairs whenever the elevators stopped working. I never imagined a life in fashion. I thought I would become an engineer. I simply wanted to help my family and create stability.
Modeling happened unexpectedly. And in many ways, purpose did too.
One of the moments discussed in this feature was the Rainforest Foundation benefit show organized by Sting and Trudie Styler. At that time, I was not one of the famous supermodels. I was young, unknown, and trying to survive in Paris. But something about that event stayed with me because it represented communities that felt connected to my own roots.
I remember standing backstage surrounded by women I had admired for years. Naomi. Christy. Cindy. Everyone seemed to belong there.
And then something shifted in me.
I stopped walking to prove myself.
I started walking with purpose.
That moment changed my life far beyond fashion. It helped shape the work I would later do through the Wayuu Taya Foundation and the way I think about leadership, service, and responsibility today.
What I love most about this article is that it does not only focus on success. It speaks about conviction. About continuing even before the world fully sees you. About understanding that resilience is often quiet.
Sometimes purpose does not arrive fully formed.
Sometimes it begins with one small decision. One moment where you choose to trust yourself instead of your fear.
I’m incredibly thankful to everyone who brought this story to life.

Because some stories are not just about where we’ve been.
They are about understanding why we kept going.
